On Tuesday, December 11, Lithuanian gallery Galerija Vartai held an exhibition opening reception for its extraordinary group show. Carrying the French name “Virages”, meaning “turns”, the exhibition talks about the infinite turns and opportunities of life. If some of the works exhibited reflect the gallery’s achievements of the past year, others set guidelines for the future.

Included in the exhibition are works by some of the most well-known Lithuanian contemporary artists – Žilvinas Kempinas, Svajonė and Paulius Stanikas, Evaldas Jansas, Patricija Jurkšaitytė, Ugnius Gelguda, Andrius Zakarauskas, Eglė and Goda Budvytytė and Ieva Misevičiūtė.  The exhibition “Virages” is curated by Danutė Gambickaitė and Jolanta Marcišauskytė – Jurašienė.

During the opening reception, Lithuania Parliament awarded video artist Evaldas Jansas the Certificate of Appreciation for his valuable video documentation archive of the contemporary art events in Lithuania. But artist Zilvinas Kempinas was recently awarded the National Culture and Arts Prize, the most important prize in Lithuania.
