Berlin Art Week (BAW) took place from 13-18 September, and, for the most part, at its focus was contemporary art. More than 50 participants presented their individual art program, among them museums, galleries, private collections, and project spaces. Two art fairs took place during BAW – abc art berlin contemporary, and Positions Berlin – which between them featured the works of 350 artists. The events program specially underscored the solo shows of Halil Altındere, Anne Imhof, Andreas Greiner, Sven Drühl, Yvonne Roeb, and Gordon Parks – in addition to three art awards, the film program Artist Films, and the twelve-hour-long closing ceremonies of this Berlin biennial.

According to the publicity for abc contemporary, this year the fair concentrated on artistic practice and the innovative exposition of work. Staying true to their word, when one entered the hall, none of the usual fair booths were to be seen; instead, the fair looked more like an expansive exhibition in which the space is solely created by individual dividing walls and artworks. The galerists had to make do with a simple box to sit down next to, and upon which they could place the list of prices.
