Artist Paulina Pukyte will curate the 11th Kaunas Biennial
Artist Paulina Pukyte will curate the 11th Kaunas Biennial, which will be held between 15 September and 30 November, 2017, in Kaunas, Lithuania. Titled There And Not There - The (Im)Possibility Of A Monument, the exhibition will explore collective memory and commemoration.
The Biennial seeks to oppose conservative traditionalism and populist removing-erecting practice, currently prevalent in the memory discourse of public art in Lithuania, and to stimulate and legitimise radically new, contemporary, conceptual, relevant ideas and strategies for remembrance, inviting artists to look back at the removed, rethink the existing, and imagine the future monuments. The exhibition will feature a retrospective of monument related projects by Lithuanian artists, as well as a number of newly commissioned site specific interventions in public space by Lithuanian and international artists.
