viennacontemporary, Austria’s leading international art fair, is set to captivate art enthusiasts and cultural aficionados from around the globe from 7–10 September 2023 in the premises of Kursalon Vienna in the center of the city.

With an impressive array of 61 exhibitors from 19 countries and a carefully curated program, viennacontemporary is poised to showcase the dynamic and diverse art scene that defines the cultural landscape of Austria, Central and Eastern Europe, and beyond. It is with great pleasure that we hereby present the exhibitor list of VCT23 as well as program highlights such as the special exhibition ZONE1, curated by British curator Francesca Gavin, which brings together ten exciting solo presentations of the next generation.

Beyond the impressive list of exhibitors and program, viennacontemporary recognizes that no fair exists in isolation. Embracing the adage “no man is an island,” or, in our case, “no fair is an island,” viennacontemporary celebrates the vibrant synergy created by numerous art festivals and events taking place alongside this year’s fair as well as the largest number of institutional partners in its history.

From the renowned Vienna-based Curated By gallery festival to Parallel Vienna, and not forgetting the celebrated Munich gallery festival, Various Others, a mere four hours away by train, art lovers will find themselves immersed in a rich tapestry of artistic expression. Together, these events draw visitors from all corners of the globe to Vienna, transforming it into a vibrant hub of art and culture.

By fostering connections and bridging artistic communities, the fair contributes to Vienna’s reputation as a global cultural capital. Through viennacontemporary, artists, collectors, curators, and enthusiasts are invited to explore the ever-evolving landscape of contemporary art with a focus on the widely underexplored regions of Central and Eastern Europe, forging new connections and sparking fresh dialogues.

PARTNER FESTIVALS

CURATED BY

Curated By, Vienna’s gallery festival featuring international curators will enter its 15th round from 8 September to 14 October 2023. Since its formation in 2009, the gallery festival has become a central event for contemporary art in Austria. The galleries, 24 in total, are working out a program that aims to underline Vienna’s significance as a location for contemporary art. The festival which brings together both established and young galleries, annually presents contemporary positions selected by international curators on an overarching theme. This year’s fall program of the Viennese galleries will follow the concept of The Neutral, which was democratically chosen by the participating galleries.

PARALLEL VIENNA

PARALLEL VIENNA takes place for the 11th time from 5 – 10 September 2023 in the famous “Otto Wagner Areal” and sticks to its approach of using temporarily vacant buildings as a presentation platform for contemporary art. PARALLEL VIENNA is a hybrid between an art fair, exhibition platform, and artist studio. It presents young and emerging as well as established artistic practices and brings together art initiatives of every kind – art associations, galleries, project spaces, off spaces, and artist spaces –, both Austrian and international, all under one roof. It thus combines local artistic creation with international trends and contributes to building networks and fosters exchanges between artists, curators, collectors, and exhibition visitors.
