‘Točka’, a new cultural space for contemporary art, opened last weekend in what was once the ‘Provodņik’ rubber factory in the Sarkandaugava district of Riga. It will be here for two months – until October 18. The 20,000m2 of industrial space is currently inhabited by the works of more than 70 young artists.

At the focus of the Točka exhibition is the core question of ‘Where am I?’ – in terms of both as an individual and society as a whole. What sort of tendencies are visible in the functioning of society? And how do we, as individuals, either fit or don’t fit into these tendencies? The artists have been given the opportunity to talk about topics that are important to them right now, and to express their position on what is happening in the world, in society, and in the global cultural space.

Beatrise Zaķe, the person behind the idea for the cultural space ‘Točka’, emphasises that this is a place where various art genres meet. Works done in various genres of visual art (sculpture, graphics, photography, installation) can be seen in the spacious premises of the former factory, and discussions, lectures, and theatre and contemporary dance performances will take place over the next two months.

Pamela Butāne, the curator of ‘Točka’ cultural space, underscores her desire to temporarily turn the building into a cultural space where activities are constantly taking place, thereby becoming a process of pulsating, creative and artistic energy embodiment in which what is happening is in constant motion and transformation. Butāne mentions Olga Melehina as one of the artists who vividly depicts this idea – in her work for the exhibition, Melehina creates (and will continue to create) her and her friends’ footprints in clay, which will then gradually sprout the seeds that Melehina has sown in them.

The following artists are participating in the exhibition: Luīze Linde, Līva Arnava, Kristīne Kutepova, Ilze Aulmane, Baiba Ābelīte, Laura Veļa, Madara Kvēpa, Andrejs Zaļaiskalns, Elvīra Aznagulova, Linda Lagzdiņa, Agnese Kaupere, Alise Bēržvade, Ella Mežule, Armands Andže, Edgars Poika, Svetlana Saveljeva, Mārtiņš Skuja, Voldemars Dzirkalis, Margarita Germane, Nils Jumītis, Roberts Bāliņš, Elīna Salnāja, Adelīna Kalniņa, Aleksandra Federika Krastiņa, Alise Builevica, Rute Marta Jansone, Aelita Ilma Maculevica, Sabīne Šnē, Anna Malicka, Gita Strazdiņa, Ella Mihailova, Sabīne Vekmane Ābele, Gita Sprince, Renāte Kloviņa, Kristiāna Švābe, Elīna Valdmane, Kristīne Daukšte, Grāfienes (Marianna Lapiņa, Justīne Jasjukeviča, Dace Ignatova, Ildze Jurkovska, Dārta Grīsle), Katerīna Namavīra, Christina Rezvohh, Pamela Butāne, Kristīne Rublovska, Ieva Putniņa, Katrīna Ieva, Ieva Stalšene, Andris Kaļiņins, Diāna Sutugina, Oskars Artūrs Upenieks, Agate Bernāne, Estere Betija Grāvere, Laura Jančauska, Elza Šarlote Matvaja, Aina Bikše, Aija Putniņa, Rebeka  Lukošus, Klāvs Priedītis, Gatis Erdmanis, Dāvis Valbaks, Agnese Piziča, Lidija Zaneripa, Ilona Zariņa, Līga Goldberga, Toms Valmiers, Ieva Filatova, Līga Ūbele, Anna Priede, Marta Kalniņa, Karlīna Marta Zvirbule, Kārlis Bogustovs, LOWERI, Raitis Hrolovičs, Marco Vargera, Chris Cay, Arita Germova, Krists Kondrāts, Olga Melehina, Kaspars Geiduks, KIWIE, Luīze Rukšāne, and Lāsma Bringina.
