Artūrs Virtmanis
Artūrs Virtmanis (1971) is an artist who has lived in New York for more than twenty years. Almost always present in Virtmanis’ work is a philosophical poeticism and a desire to speak about existential questions. A striking feature of his art are the fragile large-scale installations combining elements of drawing and spatial staging. Drawing is one of Virtmanis’ reference points and pillars.
Virtmanis has taken part in a number of group exhibitions and has held several solo exhibitions. His works have been exhibited at: The Drawing Center (New York), The Whitney Museum of American Art, (New York), Exit Art (New York), PS122 (New York), Blue Star Contemporary Art Museum (San Antonio, Texas), The Xin Dong Center for Contemporary Art (Beijing), The Morris Museum (New Jersey), Jersey City Museum (New Jersey), the Latvian National Museum of Art (Riga), Riga Art Space, and elsewhere.
