YPP competition invites the young artists from around the Baltic States to showcase their work

The Young Painter Prize (YPP) project aims to support the dynamic new art and showcase the brightest and most promising young painters from the Baltic states. Furthermore, YPP aims to help both local and international art professionals – collectors, managers and curators – discover new talent from the Baltic states and promote emerging artists, thus supporting their careers and ensuring their exposure to the art market.

This year – for the fifteenth time already – YPP competition invites the young artists from around the Baltic States to showcase their work. This year, as last year, as an exception, young Ukrainian artists who currently reside in Lithuania, Latvia or Estonia can apply for the competition. Young artists from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Ukraine (residing in Baltic countries) are invited to apply to the competition until September 1.

The winner of the YPP competition will be announced on November 10, 2023, during the opening of the exhibition of the finalists’ artworks in the Museum of Applied Arts and Design, Vilnius.

As is the tradition every year, YPP is pleased to offer the competition winner an exclusive ‘opportunity package’. This year, the winner of the YPP competition will awarded with a prize that includes: a two month residency in Nordic Artist Centre Dale (Norway) along with the 11000 NOK monthly stipend; a cash prize of EUR 3000; and an opportunity to hold a solo show at the Pamėnkalnio Gallery (Vilnius). The YPP winner’s artwork will also be included in the painting collection of the Lithuanian National Museum of Art and will be stored in the National Gallery of Art, Vilnius.

The YPP applicants are traditionally assessed by an international jury of art world professionals: established artists, art critics, curators, gallerists and art collectors. This year’s jury consists of highly respected representatives of the art field:
Laurent Le Bon - art historian, President of Centre Pompidou, France;
Arild H Eriksen - art historian, Director of NKD – Nordic Artists centre Dale, Norway;
Monika Furmana - Artist, Lithuania;
Arūnas Gelūnas - Artist, Philosopher, Director of the Lithuanian National Museum of Art, Lithuania;
Liisa Kaljula - Head of the Painting Collection, Eesti Kunstimuuseumi, Estonia;
Maris Vitols - Contemporary art Collector and Curator, Latvia;
Vita Zaman - Artist and Poet, Lithuania.

The jubilee 15th Young Painter Prize competition will be accompanied by satellite exhibitions in Vilnius galleries: “Meno niša”, “Pamėnkalnio” gallery, “The Rooster Gallery” and “Alma gallery” in Riga. And in one of the exhibition spaces of the Museum of Applied Art and Design, you will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the entire collection of the winners of the “Young Painter Prize” project, which consists of a set of fourteen paintings spanning the period from 2009 to 2022. The project organizers Julija Dailidėnaitė Palmeirao and Vilmantas Marcinkeviius and the patrons of the project add to this collection every year by donating the work of the main prize winner to the Lithuanian National Museum of Art.

The finalists of 15th YPP, selected by the jury after the first jury work step online, will compete for the main prize. The 15th Young Painter’s Prize winner will be announced on November 10, when the jury will gather in Vilnius for a second step - live discussion. The exhibition opening and the 15th Young Painter’s Prize awards ceremony will take place on November 10, 7:00 p.m., at the Museum of Applied Arts and Design (address: Arsenalo str. 3a, 01143 Vilnius, Lietuva).
